NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS IN PUBLIC SERVICE FOR 25 YEARS SINCE 1997
- Endeavoured to contest for the 15th President of India elections in 2022
- Pioneered the concept of the existing Aadhar Card, which I had initially termed as Indian Citizenship Number, and presented its benefits to the policy makers in conferences and meetings at the IHC and the IIC, New Delhi, till it was finally endorsed by former Dy. PM Sh. L.K. Advani ji around 2002-03 and broadcast by him on national news channels
- Presented brief suggestions for electoral reforms to former Chief Election Commissioner Sh. J.M. Lyngdoh in 2002 that were later on incorporated in the ordinance
- Two of my proposals accepted by the Constitutional Reforms Committee chaired by former Chief Justice of India, Hon’ble Justice Venkatachallaiah. I owe my gratitude to former Governor Sh. N.N. Vohra and former Attorney General Sh. Soli Sorabjee.
- Based on my research and survey of Indian parents and mature college students, the NCERT and the CBSE revised the entire syllabus in order to encourage creativity and pragmatism in school education; follow-up public interface with former NCERT Chairman Sh. Rajput anchored by Barkha Dutt and broadcast on national news channel
- My grievance to ban ragging in colleges accepted by the University Grants Commission, which warned colleges with stopping of grants in case ragging ever reported in premises
- Successfully got removed advertising of tobacco brands on TV and billboard with the help of Advertising Standards Council of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and Ministry of Information & Broadcasting according to the COTPA Act of the Sansad
- Solved the problems of traffic congestion at major roundabouts, such as Dhaula Kuan and Rajouri Garden by presenting problems and solutions to authorities including Additional CP Smt. Kanwaljeet Deol in a meeting that led to construction of flyovers
- Presented solutions, which were implemented by the Bhure Lal Committee, for managing parking problem in Delhi around 2003 including adoption of Time-based Parking approach that replaced a nominal car-parking fee of Rs 10 for almost full day
- Presented reforms to ease traffic congestion and ensure road discipline to former DCP Sh. S.B.S. Tyagi, who approved some reforms including use of timers at red light crossing to overcome the problem of jumping of red light and thus averting fatal accidents
- Approached Delhi Traffic Police HQ to enforce non-usage of pestering horns at red light crossing, and so former JCP Sh. Maxwell Pereira put signs all over Delhi the very next day by warning offenders with monetary fine for causing excessive loud noise
- Proposed reforms in Delhi Police to former Commissioner Sh. Ajay Raj Sharma, most noticeable being the non-usage of lathi by constables to ensure citizen-friendliness and professional dignity in policing
- Persistently approached municipal corporation and eventually the erstwhile MCD Commissioner Sh. Rakesh Mehta in 2002 in a meeting at the IHC to cover stormwater drains all over Delhi for preventing water stagnation and Dengue & Malaria
- Consistently working towards the goal of keeping streets, districts and entire India clean through effective garbage disposal, non-burning of leaves, and preventing spread of mosquitoes by eliminating water stagnation at the source itself
- Striving towards the goal of eliminating unnecessary demolition and reconstruction of footpath and road dividers occurring annually – to save construction material obtained from natural resources of mountains and to prevent unnecessary wastage of public funds that could be used for healthcare, education, defence, and infrastructure
- Continually saving trees and preventing deforestation with the help of Forest Deptt.
- After driving on NH8 highway for nearly 23 years in dim yellow bulb lighting that was unsafe for road users, I spoke with Delhi Traffic Police and PWD in February 2020, and then eventually followed-up with National Highways Authority of India, NHAI, to get new LED lighting system that is not only energy-efficient but also has illuminated the NH8 with so much brightness at night that it looks as if one is driving in daylight
- Won the landmark case with the help of National Disaster Management Authority, National Human Rights Commission and Central Pollution Control Board that prevented deforestation of 1900 acres of Mangar Bani forests, thus maintaining ecological balance, and preventing landslides and floods proactively
- Always endeavouring to keep air and water clean by all means with the help of CPCB, DPCC, Ministry of Environment & Forests, CSE, and media by emphasizing removal of concrete residue and dust thrown negligently on roadside
- Taking injured animals and birds on streets, whenever possible, to neighbouring hospital
- Performed selfless service in the ashram of Sathya Sai Baba, Puttaparthy, A.P.
- Donating food to the homeless people in Delhi and the rest of India
- Ensured that the homeless people in Delhi got shelters, whenever noticed, during Covid-19 lockdown with the help of PGMS India and by contacting the govt. and the nodal officer overseeing homeless shelters
